Brandon Graham won't say which team he thinks is better between the 2017 and 2022 Eagles, but there are some differences in the two sides that stand out to him.
The 2022 Eagles are rolling. They sit at 10-1 on the season after Sunday night’s win over the Packers, and a deep postseason run seems very much in reach.
Of course, the Eagles have not been to or won a Super Bowl since Feb. 2018, when they capped off their 2017 campaign with a championship over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. That Eagles team was loaded with talent, going 13-3 in the regular season and winning the NFC East.
The success alone makes it easy to draw comparisons between that team and this year’s. Brandon Graham shared in his weekly appearance on “Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team” how the two teams are different.
“You know what, offensively, man we are a little better than we were that year. But I feel like where we were better at 2017 was the running (defense),” Graham said. “I feel like we’re going to get better as we keep coming, but that was one thing that we were real good at.
“And then the passing game is something we struggled with a little more in 2017 than we do this year, because this year we’re killing it on the pass game. But I just feel like both teams are different. The personalities, it was fun but it blew by so fast in 2017. I’m trying not to let it blow by as fast this year.”
Indeed, Philly’s run defense has become a bit of a problem this season. They’ve been gashed by a few backs this season, but it hasn’t helped that they’ve been decimated by injuries on the interior defensive line.
Regardless of the differences, the fact that the 2017 and 2022 Eagles can be discussed in the same sentence only emphasizes the reason for optimism around this year’s group.
