If Patrick Mahomes is a Rolls-Royce, and other top-tier NFL QBs relate to other luxury or performance cars, then Brock Purdy is…a Ford Fiesta?
We know BMitch is old school, but those aren’t even made anymore! Regardless, Brian makes the analogy like this:
“He’s not the biggest arm, but you don’t see him trying to do stupid stuff. He makes way more quick decisions than half of the guys we praise. I look at him like somebody gave you a car, and he’s a Ford Fiesta – all the other guys are Ferraris, but that Ford Fiesta is still out thre getting you places and the Ferraris have been beat. If that keeps winning, who is the best? Dependability, to me, is way more important than how something looks."
JP, who compared Dan Quinn to a minivan, said ‘that’s a tough comp’ and tried to maybe change that to a Mitsubishi Eclipse, but in Brian’s mind, any car running is better than a Ferrari with no engine. And B doesn’t think the moment on the biggest track in the circuit will be too big for Purdy, even as Mr. Irrelevant, because he’s been there before and done nothing but produce.
“People are conditioned to look at where someone is drafted and judge them off of that – but Purdy, the way he’s played…no quarterback is asked to do everything, they’re asked to manage the game and make plays, and that’s what he does,” Brian said. “We kept saying we’ll know after a few games, and he kept producing. He got hurt, came back, and produced again. We have to stop looking at him now as Mr. Irrelevant, and look at him as a starting QB in the NFL. He has been productive, and he deserves that credit.”
“I don’t know where I land, because I always like to look at the numbers, but when you watch him, he always seems to make the big, important play,” JP replied. “If you want to knock his numbers, that’s fair, but when you run the ball as well as that team does, you don’t need them.”
