Another trade for the Caps ahead of Friday’s NHL Draft: they have dealt forward Hendrix Lapierre to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
Lapierre, 24, was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. He was the Caps’ first round pick in 2020 at No. 22 overall, and played 158 games over parts of four seasons in DC, notching 13 goals and 34 assists.
Last year, he had four goals, 12 assists, and an even rating in 74 games.
Sending Lapierre to Pittsburgh is the third move the Caps have made this week, following the acquisitions of forwards Jordan Kyrou from St. Louis and Alex Tuch from Buffalo - the former of which also sent Connor McMichael to the Blues.
