Caps confirm email to ticketholders saying 2025-26 would be Ovi's last NHL season is inaccurate

The 2025-26 NHL season will NOT be Alex Ovechkin’s last, at least right now – regardless of an email you may have received saying so.

The Capitals themselves issued a statement confirming that was a mistake on Thursday afternoon, hours after season-ticket holders received an email stating next season was Ovi’s last ride.

That was necessary after it appeared as if the Caps’ sales departments had broken news with a Thursday morning email to season ticketholders that read: “OCTOBER – the start of Capitals hockey and Alex Ovechkin’s FINAL NHL SEASON.”

That being the truth had been rumored, as he has the all-time scoring record, turns 40 in September, and is entering the final year of his current contract – and in fact, there was wonder if he would retire this summer if the Caps had won the Cup, but he confirmed earlier this month he will return this fall.

But, as of now, he’s coming back for 2025-26, and beyond that, nothing is concrete.
