JUNKIES: Spencer Carbery already felt the historic aura in Caps' first trip back to UBS Arena

One last time before the regular season ends, Spencer Carbery joined the Junkies on Wednesday for his weekly visit, ostensibly to look back on the Caps’ last few games and look ahead to Thursday’s regular-season finale and the playoffs.

The big moment there was a win at UBS Arena Tuesday night where Dylan Strome potted a hatty to give the Caps all their offense…but Carbs still couldn’t help but feel the aura of the lone goal they scored last time they were on Long Island 10 days ago.

The bigger thing was the win, as the Caps look to get back on track for the playoffs, and even as they’re not looking past a Pittsburgh team playing out their final 60 on Thursday, the Caps are already looking at the two potential teams they may see in the first round, Montreal or Columbus.

“We’re scouting both teams, but we had the luxury of playing Columbus for two straight games, which is nice because you have a really good feel as a team; our coaches and players have that feel of their team, and didn't play them in mean-nothing games. We played them when they were absolutely at their best, season on the line,” Carbery said. “Everything they were doing from a systematic and a game plan standpoint was being done to the utmost detail and the utmost urgency level, so it gives us a really good idea of what the Blue Jackets are all about. And then, we have also been watching Montreal, pre-scouting their games and making sure that we're ready if that ends up being the opponent.”
