The Capitals only got one goal on Wednesday night (albeit from the guy you were hoping would get one), but they racked up plenty of penalty minutes after things got really chippy late in their loss in Carolina.
Craig Laughlin was of course in the booth calling the game for Monumental Sports Network, and while you don’t see things like that every day, Locker, an old school Cap, was brought back to days of yore watching it.
And yeah, Locker, what’s NOT to love about Ovi and the GR8 Chase winding down?
“Absolutely not,” Locker said when asked if he ever saw anyone breaking Gretzky’s record. “When I was asked years ago, even when Ovi was getting those 60-goal seasons and winning the Rocket Richard so many years, I said there's no way that that number is attainable. You think about it, and look at where he is today, and that he's gonna beat Gretzky sooner rather than later…I probably will be in my grave if someone does beat the record that Ovi’s gonna attain. It’s gonna take someone to score 20 seasons at 45 goals to reach 900, and to me, that’s just not attainable. But this is spectacular; it’s great for the game, we’re building more fans, more people are getting excited. To me, this is one of the greatest years for hockey and the growth of the game because of what Ovi is doing here.”
