Ovi's within range to break the record in one game - so is Coach Carbs dialing it up for him?

It’s Day 2 of a back-to-back for the Capitals, who won in Boston Tuesday night and are gonna be in Raleigh Wednesday night for a game against the Hurricanes - and, if you saw the reaction for one goal in Boston last night, you can bet 'Canes fans would love to see an Ovechkin hat trick tonight to get him into a tie with Gretzky for goal-scoring immortality.

Spencer Carbery was up early for his usual weekly chat with the Junkies after a charter to Carolina, and even though he was a little groggy from getting to bed at 2 a.m. or so, it might be time to have that discussion with Ovi about things, because three away from tying is very, VERY doable in one game for a guy with 32 career hatties.

In addition to the Ovi chase, Carbery is also navigating Ryan Leonard’s maiden NHL voyage, as he made hos league debut Tuesday night in his college town after wrapping up BC’s season – and just like the veterans on the team have already taken to Leonard, so, too, has the coaching staff.

“It's a unique situation, but we took him eighth overall, and after that, you have high hopes, and he had an incredible year, so automatically, he starts to get on the radar. This guy looks like he’s going to be a star,” Carbery said. “He doubled down on that this year and was playing at an even higher level, so people who evaluate prospects think he looks like a star, and when his season ended and he signed, him coming in is amazing for the organization. He’s still a very young man, and the NHL is not like the NBA where you can step right in, there’s still some development the first couple years. You can see the potential, and he’s going to play, but we don't expect him to come in and save the world and carry us.”
