Jakob Chychrun on being on the ice for, and later celebrating, Ovi's 895th goal

So, what was it like for Jakob Chychrun to not only watch, but be on the ice for, Alex Ovechkin’s record breaking 895th career goal?

The Capitals lost 4-1 on Long Island Sunday, somewhat dampening the record day, but the celebration was one that was a long time coming – and it didn’t stop on the ice, or even in the locker rook after the game.

“We all were able to get together after the home game against Chicago, we had a nice team dinner at a local restaurant, and after the New York game, we all flew home and that wasa great flight,” Chychrun said. “Then we all got together again, a lot of people at a restaurant downtown, and we were there until late into the morning. Just a blast, I mean, memories of a lifetime. I think I posted a couple pictures on my Instagram from that night…just special.”

Now, however, the celebration is over (outside of whatever comes Thursday when they return to Capital One Arena), but to Chychrun, the chase ended at the perfect time: right ahead of three days off before the final five games in eight days, giving them a chance to celebrate but also reset for the playoffs.

“It felt like a mini-bye week almost, which was nice. Obviously it was a perfect timing with all the celebrations, and being able to soak it all in and allow us to have some time to be able to do that, so really couldn't have been better for that,” Chychrun said. “But yeah, also just to reset and continue to get into that postseason mindset, so hopefully we can take advantage of it and you continue to prime ourselves here.
