Joe Beninati was on the call when Alex Ovechkin scored his first career goal, way back on October 5, 2005, against Columbus at Capital One Arena…and then netted his second in the same game.
Here we are 893 later, and for Beninati, this is something that he had seen maybe a decade in the making.
It didn't happen at home, like No. 1, No. 500, and a few other milestones up to 894 did, but Beninati, who's seen a lot of hockey in a lot of arenas, was pleased with how the reaction played out.
