Dylan Strome and the Capitals are back in action Thursday night against Seattle, the first of nine games in 17 days before the All-Star break at the end of the month…and it’s Sonny Milano Chia Pet giveaway night at Cap One?
“Sonny Milano has the best hair game on the Washington Capitals and it's gonna be the giveaway tonight at Capital One Arena,” Cakes laughed as Strome joined the Junkies Thursday for his weekly segment, “and I think that's pretty big for him.”
“Yeah, it was something that they talked about at the beginning of the season in camp; you never know how a guy is gonna react, but I think it's pretty cool,” Strome said. “Sonny’s quite the character, and when he found out he was pretty pumped about it. I know he's looking forward to it. They posted a funny little video of him doing like a promo about it in camp, and he’s a pretty funny guy. I’m sure the fans are gonna love it. He's got, I think, probably the best hair in the NHL, or up there at least.”
The last game saw a big win over the Kings that saw Max Pacioretty record his first point as a Cap, and then give an emotional speech in the locker room after about his incredible comeback from a pair of torn Achilles – and the moment was NOT lost on Strome.
“That postgame speech by Patches was awesome. He’s played five hockey games in the last two years, and as someone who’s been playing for as long as he has, I’m sure he’s never gone that long playing so few games, so I know it’s emotional,” Strome said. “He had his family at the game, he has five kids and they were all there, and he’s an awesome teammate and a great guy. And, you can tell how much of a leader he is; like, I just felt like when he was speaking, you can kind of tell in his voice the reason he was a captain, especially at Montreal, for so long. I'm excited to continue to play with him, and it was definitely nice for him to get his first point, and I wouldn't be surprised if he got his first goal tonight.”
Maybe on a set-up from Alex Ovechkin, who assisted one of Strome’s recent goals and is leading the team in points despite his own goal-scoring drought.
“He’s a living legend. I think there's a lot of words to describe him, but he’s a living legend,” Strome said. “I knew he loved to score goals, and you see it in the celebrations, but like, when we were in Montreal, he made a great pass to me and I scored and was celebrating pretty hard, and then the camera pans over to him in the background and he's celebrating just as hard as I was. He’s just a great teammate, a great guy to have on your team. Yeah, the goals haven't been there as much as they've been in his career, but I do think that he's heating up, and I don't think anyone's gonna be surprised when he finishes with somewhere close to 30. I know we’re excited for that and I think he’s got it in him, and I’m looking forward for that down the stretch.”
