We thought last week was Nic Dowd’s final weekly visit to the Junkies, powered by Verizon – but we did get one last one this week, as Dowder jumped on to talk about his contract extension and the Caps’ season finale!
And, of course, after joking about how he said last week his price would go up if the Caps win the Cup, Dowd did get serious about what it meant to him that Ted Leonsis tweeted positively about the extension and Dowd’s role on the team.
The Capitals also released footage of Dowd’s extension being revealed to his teammates, which led to him having a Coors Light at lunchtime (hint hint, Coors, he’s willing for s sponsorship), and he may need deal that because it’s actually only $59,999,985?
“It kind of all came to fruition the day before, around lunchtime, and it was a game day, so it wasn’t like I had to go in and sign or anything like that on a game day, so I ended up signing it after the game, on the bus, by myself on my phone, and the guys found out the next day,” Dowd said. “It’s pretty typical (to DocuSign) – I think of all the deals that I've signed, I've only signed one of them in actual person. I was in (Director of Team Operations) Rob Tillotson’s office, standing next to his desk – just happened to be at home, so it was easier. But DocuSign, I had to pay a $15 membership, so I'll be passing that over to management later!
