JUNKIES: Spencer Carbery on Caps' back-to-back road losses

Curse of the Junkies?

The Capitals are 0-2 since their win Saturday night, when the Junkies did the alt-cast of the game on Monumental Sports Network, so maybe Wednesday’s visit with the guys will bring Coach Carbs and his squad some luck as we hit the holiday week and they come off a pair of losses that snapped an 11-game road winning streak?

“Hockey is different because of the schedule and the 82 games, and the back-to-back part of it, but there’s no excuse; it didn’t matter who we were playing yesterday for whatever reason, and we’ll figure out why that was, but yeah, it wasn’t good,” Coach Carbs told the Junkies Wednesday.

The team had a travel snafu that led to them not traveling from Dallas to Chicago until Tuesday morning, but Carbery won’t use that as an excuse.

“You should have seen some of the things that happened when you cut your teeth in the minors; I've showed up to games 30 minutes before the game started on a bus,” Carbery said. “You learn to deal with those things, and there's adversity and that stuff happens all the time, so it’s not that big a deal.”

That all said, it’s a two-game losing streak heading into Friday’s game against Carolina, and the Caps will be going hard in the leadup to it.

“It’s a long year, and we have a lot of work to do; if anybody thought that we were just gonna cruise through this season, they’re wrong,” Carbery said. “So, this is not a shocking couple of games for us. We know it's gonna be difficult and we know we've got a lot of work to do, and this group will be willing to put it in. We’ll take today to rest and recover, and then tomorrow we’ll get back to work with a heavy focus on what we need to do to get back to some of the things structurally that have started to slip, and some of the habits that have started to slip. We'll get to work on those, and make sure we're ready for Friday.”
