Smokin' Al Koken thinks if Ovi scores in Carolina…the 'jets will be revved up' for a record-breaker at home Friday
Alex Ovechkin has scored in back-to-back games, three of his last four, and four of six over the last two weeks – and both his current pace, his season goals-per-game average, and career marks say he’s going to break the all-time NHL goal record at some point before the Caps wrap this season up on April 17.
When and where is going to be up to the flow of the games, but our guy Smokin’ Al Koken, who has been rinkside for Monumental Sports all season, thinks that if makes it three games in a row Wednesday night and is within a hattie of history on Friday? Get ready for a push to do it in front of his home crowd.
And, while The GR8 Chase has been a thing pretty much all season, now that Ovi has hit 890 and 891 in back-to-back games, the real 'circus' begins now.
“The circus really begins tonight – Gary Bettman is supposed to come in tonight, and he said he's gonna start following Ovi, and when he gets within three, that’s when No. 99 starts to trail,” Koken said. “And then, we’ve heard that Nik Backstrom wants to be a part of it, TJ Oshie wants to, and we’ve seen extra video and photographers traveling with the team, documenting his every move. Now, we’re really gonna see the circus if he gets to within three. Credit to the league, they’ve made sure this isn’t just a Washington story, but they’re gonna bring their own people now, too, and everybody involved is embracing Ovi.”
