The logo for the 2023 Stadium Series game between the Capitals and Hurricanes in Raleigh is out, and it is spectacular:
The game will be played February 18 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, the home of North Carolina State’s football team, and is one of two outdoor games on next season’s slate. The Bruins and Penguins will also play at Fenway Park on January 2 in the annual Winter Classic.
The logo gives nods to both Raleigh, the City of Oaks, with the tree, and the twelve lights signify the 12th game on the Stadium Series lineage.
The Hurricanes have never played outdoors, but the Capitals have played three previous times and won all three. They defeated the Maple Leafs at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis in a Stadium Series game in March 2018, and have won two Winter Classics – defeating the Penguins in 2011 at Heinz Field, and the Blackhawks in 2015 at Nationals Park.
Carolina reached the Eastern Conference semifinals this season, falling in seven games to the Rangers, but the Capitals were 3-1 against the ‘Canes in the regular season.
