The Washington Capitals have five games left this regular season, starting with a home game against the Hurricanes Thursday night that will surely have a ton of celebration of Alexander Ovechkin breaking the NHL’s all-time goals record.
But with that in the rear view, the team knows it’s time to get in gear for the playoffs, especially as they’ve lost five of seven coming into this stretch.
But, as head coach Spencer Carbery also told the Junkies in his weekly visit Wednesday, Ovi getting the record so early in April, and ahead of three days off before five games in eight days, means they have plenty of time to get right.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what we’re hoping. Today is a work day, and we're gonna get back to work and have a very, very, narrowed focus on what we're doing, being really diligent with our preparation. Now, it's go time,” Carbery said. “It is go time for our group, and guys will know that today. Now we get to work and do everything that we possibly can every single day to put ourselves in good positions, individually and collectively, to have some success here moving past April 17.”
