Is T.J. Oshie about to announce his retirement?
The Washington Capitals announced on social media Wednesday that Oshie will be making a ‘special announcement’ on Monday at The Wash Harbour in Georgetown, perhaps not coincidentally the same location where Oshie, Alex Ovechkin, and others swam in the fountains while celebrating their Stanley Cup parade in June 2018.
Oshie spent last season on long-term injured reserve due to a chronic back issue, and will become a free agent this summer – and he has said he would hang it up if he can’t find a solution to those back problems.
If this is the end, he finishes his career with 302 goals in 1,010 games with the Blues and Caps over 16 seasons, including that one Stanley Cup and a celebration of his 1,000th game in Washington. His final game would have been Game 4 of the 2023 Eastern Conference First Round series against the Rangers, where he played 18:29 and had one shot on goal.
And, he could have his next gig lined up, as he was a guest analyst for ESPN’s presentation of the Western Conference Finals.
