One of the best cornerbacks in the NFL appears to be on the trade market.

Miami Dolphins corner Xavien Howard released a statement on Tuesday explaining that he has requested a trade from the team.

Howard, 28, explained in the statement that he believes he has outperformed the extension he signed in 2018, a five-year, $75.25 million deal with $27.18 million guaranteed.

Yet, Howard stated he never asked for a new contract and instead brought alternatives, such as more guaranteed money, in an effort to remain with the Dolphins but the team refused any of his proposals.

Howard is currently at training camp with the Dolphins, explaining that he is there “so I don’t get fined,” but his displeasure and request for a trade is clear.

Howard says he is one of the best cornerbacks in the league and he is not wrong.

Last year, Howard led the NFL with 10 interceptions and 20 pass deflections. He had 51 tackles and a forced fumble as well in his first All-Pro season. He has 22 interceptions total since being drafted in the second round by the Dolphins in 2016.
