It might have been the second-best catch of the American League Championship Series.
On the first pitch he saw from Houston starter Framber Valdez, Rafael Devers swung at a 95-mph fastball on the inside part of the plate. The connection resulted in the Red Sox third baseman's bat exploding, with the ball tricking to first baseman Yuli Gurriel.
But while most were focusing on what would be the first out of the inning, the fans in Section 16 - in back of the aisle and lined up with the Red Sox on-deck circle - had to navigate the piece of lumber flying their way.
One fan proved to be laser-focused, stick up his right hand and snatching what would be the majority of Devers' bat out of the air without hesitation. While the Sox' slugger was left with just the handle, the Red Sox fan (he was wearing a Red Sox sweatshirt) came away with a souvenir and the admiration of an entire ALCS-viewing audience.
The best catch of the series? Well, that probably still belongs to Kiké Hernandez in the second inning of Game 1.
