On the heels of firing offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and the 2021 season seemingly destined to miss the playoffs yet again, the New York Giants could have some more big changes coming by the end of the season.

Namely, moving on from general manager Dave Gettleman.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gettleman is unlikely to return next season and that decision could come from Gettleman himself, who could decide to walk away and retire at the conclusion of the season.

Gettleman, who will turn 71 in February, has been GM of the Giants the last four seasons and has yet to oversee a playoff appearance or winning record.

His most notable moves have come in the form of drafting the extremely talented, yet oft-injured Saquon Barkley and quarterback Daniel Jones, who still has not quite proven he is the clear-cut franchise quarterback.

The next GM would essentially need to decide if the organization should stick with Jones or move in another direction, as well as address other areas of need, which include the offensive line, linebacking corps and also if Joe Judge should remain head coach.

Per Rapoport, assistant GM Kevin Abrams is a potential internal replacement or the team could look toward candidates with background in the New England scouting system, a familiarity with Judge’s thinking.
