Friday at 4 p.m., the Maryland Terrapins begin their quest for the national championship against Bryce Drew’s Grand Canyon team, which is a dangerous first round opponent not to be taken lightly.
But, as JP Finlay and Terps insider Jeff Ermann, just a couple Maryland grads talking it out, discussed the tourney on Wednesday, they both came to the conclusion that it should be Sweet 16 or bust…and both are okay if the ride ends there.
Even if they have to overcome the fact that they’re playing in the West Regional, which means they’re in Seattle now, then would stay out west to play in San Francisco later next week.
“I gave up on trying to figure out what the NCAA is thinking many years ago, because if there’s something that they can screw up, they probably will,” Ermann said. “I'm not sure what the reasoning was on sending them out west, and the funny thing is, a lot of times if you get sent out west, you're like, okay, we win and we come back and play on the East Coast or in the Midwest, but in this case, you're still out west in San Francisco. So that’s a bad break for them; I their path in the first two rounds is pretty advantageous, but having to travel out there and stay out there and not have as many fans if you were in like Providence or somewhere like that, it was definitely a little bit of a blow.”
