He’s now a softball coach, but Jason Bishop is a former basketball star, as his nickname “Lurch” may lead you to believe – and in fact, he played at DeMatha Catholic around the same time that former Duke star Brian Davis, now an alleged bidder for the Commanders, was at Bladensburg in the late-1980s.
Bishop was teammates with Jerrod Mustaf, who went to Maryland and was a first-round pick in 1990, and Mustaf was an AAU teammate of Davis – so, in the midst of a nearly 40-minute interview with Davis on Wednesday about his Commanders bid, the Junkies had to ask him one question about Bish’s prowess as a high school hooper.
The result? Bish is, indeed, a legend!
“You won’t believe this, but Jason Bishop almost ended my career!” Davis laughed. “He was so good that when we played AAU ball, me, Jerrod Mustaf, and Kenny Blakeney…Jason Bishop was the man. He’s a legend!”
Blakeney was also one of Bishop’s teammates at DeMatha and later Davis’ teammate at Duke, and he is now the head coach at Howard – so since he’s in the area, the Junkies may have to get him on as well to further verify!
