JUNKIES: Mike Jones explains his decision to leave Maryland for his alma mater Old Dominion

Sometimes, bloodlines run deep – and that’s showing in DMV college hoops.

ICYMI last week, Maryland assistant Mike Jones was named the next head coach at his alma mater, Old Dominion, after Monarchs coach Jeff Jones announced his retirement due to health issues. Mike Jones played at ODU in the 1990s and twice went to the NCAA Tourney, including a memorable Triple OT upset of No. 3-seeded Villanova in 1995.

He was previously the head coach at Junks alma mater DeMatha Catholic from 2002-21 and is now the fourth Willard assistant to become a head coach in the last year, and on Tuesday, he joined the Junkies to explain his decision to go home to Norfolk and take over!
