Andrew Golden gives Danny more reason to gush over James Wood

James Wood hit his third homer in six spring games today, and if he’s not careful, the future is gonna come sooner than later – and as WaPo’s Andrew Golden told Danny during Thursday’s Beltway Blitz, it’s okay to be ‘squealing like a child at Christmas about James Wood.’

“He looks really good in camp. He put on 25 pounds, he’s now about 240 and is a lot stronger, and he’s worked on his plate discipline and really trying to see the ball to the zone, and hit the ball the opposite way. He’s out to a hot start, just been unbelievable,” Golden said.

Even more impressive to Danny than the bombs? His wheels.

“I think what impresses me the most personally from watching him isn't even just what he does with the home runs or beating the balls out- for me, it's the plate discipline and not chasing on the breaking pitches,” Golden said. “That was obviously a big concern with the strikeouts, which obviously is gonna be an adjustment you get to Double-A, but he's really good at recognizing spin, so he's not missing or swinging on those balls in the dirt that you kind of saw getting messed up with last year. He's very disciplined in every facet in his game, and a lot more polished than he was last time we saw him.”

Golden has also been impressed by MacKenzie Gore and Jackson Rutledge so far in camp, and he gave Danny his take on Victor Robles (who Danny is ‘so over’) – take a listen to it all above!
