D.C. to lift all capacity restrictions on sports venues June 11

Soon enough, the Washington Capitals, Wizards and Nationals will be able to perform in front of sold-out crowds filled to capacity once more.

Come June 11, a day nearly 15 months in the making, all capacity restrictions will be lifted on sports venues in D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Monday. For many, it's the first sign of life returning to pre-pandemic normalcy.

Some venues across the District — such as restaurants, weddings and special events, places of worship, and pools — will be able to return to full capacities as soon as May 21.

For the Capitals and Wizards, this could mean the potential for hosting playoff games in front of capacity crowds at Capital One Arena. For the Nationals, it means no more socially distanced sections at Nationals Park as the club pursues a playoff spot in its final 102 regular season games.

The District still strongly insists its residents get vaccinated and encourage friends and family to do the same, recommending that fully vaccinated people continue to wear a mask and wash their hands, and for unvaccinated people to continue to wear a mask, stay six feet apart and wash their hands.

The District also encourages its residents to continue following CDC mask guidance, practice good hygiene and stay home and get tested when they feel sick.
