Nothing gets fans going these days than overanalyzing a players' Instagram post.
The latest comes from Washington Nationals star Juan Soto.
Soto, who is in New York this week for a series against the Mets, posted on his Instagram account Tuesday night a photo of him during batting practice looking out to the field with a caption in Spanish that is translated to, "Let God move the chips for you, we can't do it alone."
But it was the hashtags that raised a few eyebrows.
Soto included #bigapple, #dream, #newyork, #2021 and #future in the post, which some on social media interpreted as a potential hint that the 22-year-old slugger sees his future playing in New York, possibly for the Mets. Or maybe even the Yankees?

Soto later appeared to edit the post to remove #future, possibly in an attempt to quell any rampant online speculation about his future.
Perhaps it was an honest mistake by Soto, who was just happy to be playing in New York. He does have a 1.236 career OPS playing at Citi Field and hit an opposite field home run Tuesday night before rain forced the game to be postponed.

Or maybe Soto is upset about the direction the Nationals are going and envisions himself playing in New York one day. The Nationals did just have a fire sale at the trade deadline, parting ways with Max Scherzer, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Yan Gomes, Josh Harrison, Daniel Hudson and Brad Hand.
Soto is not a free agent until 2025, so it is unlikely he is going anywhere any time soon. The Nationals could certainly rebuild around Soto and become contenders again.
Of course, that is all assuming if Soto is indeed unhappy. It all could have just been a misunderstanding that has fans jumping to conclusions.
