Well, Eric Hosmer will wind up with the Boston Red Sox after rejecting a trade to the Washington Nationals, according to Jon Heyman and others.
The 32-year-old first baseman exercised a clause in his contract allowing him to block a trade to the Nats, who were on his no-trade list.
The Nationals still got a huge haul in exchange for Juan Soto and Josh Bell, who are now heading to the San Diego Padres. Hosmer aside, the Nats are getting: 19-year-old outfielder James Wood; 23-year-old left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore; 20-year-old outfielder Robert Hassell III; 21-year-old shortstop C.J. Abrams; and 18-year-old right-handed pitcher Jarlin Susana.
The Hosmer mini-saga included an incredible amount of twists and turns as national MLB reporters circulated bits of information about the deal.
Now, it's over.
