We’re back with another edition of us stealing GP stealing Peter King’s bit – this time, it’s five quotes from their interview with Dave Martinez about the Nationals’ pitching staff!

Davey on his Opening Day starter: “I haven’t decided anything yet, I’ll let spring play out. Josiah (Gray) and MacKenzie (Gore) are having great camps, but Patrick (Corbin) has developed a cutter and knows what he has to do, and so he’s throwing the ball really well.”

Davey on whether he’ll take the home opener (Game 4) into account in setting his rotation: “This guy’s been reading my book! I definitely have thought about that.”

Davey on the back of his rotation behind Gore, Gray, and Corbin: “I look at our depth and it’s really good. Hoping Jake (Irvin) has a good spring and takes off from where he left off last year, and (Jackson Rutledge) made some good strides last year; he got humbled a bit early and realized he had to pound the zone to get hitters in swing mode early. And then we have some other good arms, Cole Henry is finally healthy, so we’re excited by the depth we have.”

Davey on Cade Cavalli’s timeline: “He wants to get out there, but we have to be smart. We’re gonna build him up. We don’t have a timetable, but he’ll be in MLB with us for sure this year.”

And finally, Davey on his bullpen: "We have stablished guys in the back end, but we still have a few spots open, and we're looking at everything. Nothing is set in stone. There are opportunities here, so make everything count and play well. We’ll look at all our options and try to take the best 26 guys we've got."
