There was wonder, at least from Chelsea Janes on G&D a couple weeks back, if the pending sale of the Orioles could help the Nationals either get out of their MASN deal, or somehow find better viability in it.
Well, let's put that all on hold, because there's a BIG hiccup potentially looming: MASN's contract with Comcast is up at the end of February, and if they can't come to a deal and the provider dumps the RSN for a time being, there will be no Nats or Orioles games on the cable system that covers a large chunk of the DMV.
Perhaps just as tough is that if they do make a deal, something MASN wasn't able to do with Charter/Spectrum last year, Comcast has recently moved the RSNs that carry Pirates and Mariners games in their markets to a higher tier – which could mean higher cost to subscribers, at a time where MASN's subscriber base is declining (Charter contract included).
Take a listen above as Grant & Danny discuss the situation and try to break down what it could mean for the Nationals' broadcasts this season (and beyond).
