Max Scherzer makes his return to the mound Wednesday night, getting the start for the Rangers as they try to take a 3-0 lead over the Astros in the ALCS – and like Grant with Bryce Harper Tuesday, he and Danny Rouhier admitted they’re rooting for Mad Max.
“Max Scherzer was ruled out for the rest of the season several weeks ago, but he didn't tell himself that he was out for the rest of the year – and now, after throwing a couple side sessions, he is going to give it a go in Game 3,” Grant said. “One of the great competitors I've ever covered and who's come through this city. I'm rooting for Scherzer tonight because it's hard not to, he's Mad Max – but when it would have been really easy for him to just count all his money and shut it down, something 90 percent or more of players with his diagnosis would’ve done, he said, ‘I want to be ready just in case there’s a chance I could pitch in the ALCS, and here he is.”
“He’s pitching against the Astros, so there's a big list of people I'd root for pitching against the Astros and he would certainly be on that, but yeah, the toughest son of a gun you and I have ever had the pleasure to get to know a bit,” Danny said.
And that segued into Danny making the joke that if you have a favorite ex-National, they’re either retired (sup Ryan Zimmerman?) or playing in the final four.
Indeed, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner are crushing it on the other side for the Phillies, and you can take a listen to G&D discussing “the former Nats show” that is the ALCS & NLCS, and how it looks like a collision course between them all in the Fall Classic!
