Nationals-Braves series to begin Tuesday, conclude with traditional doubleheader

The Nationals at long last will begin their season on Tuesday after a spate of positive COVID-19 tests wiped out their first four regular-season games.

Washington first lost its Opening Day game against the Mets last Thursday after a positive test and additional contact tracing revealed a potentially larger problem. Indeed that was the case as four total players eventually tested positive, forcing Major League Baseball to postpone Washington's entire opening weekend series against the Mets.

The Nationals announced Sunday evening that their season would officially begin on Tuesday, adding that their most recent round of testing revealed no new positive cases.

Additionally, the Nationals announced Monday afternoon that their game originally scheduled for Monday against the Braves would be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday.

"The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals will play a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, April 7th at 12:05 p.m. ET at Nationals Park," the Nationals announced on Monday. "The Nationals have moved the game time on April 7th to 12:05 p.m. ET (from 4:05 p.m. ET) to accommodate the doubleheader."

The statement continues: "Fans who held tickets to the originally scheduled 4:05 p.m. game on Wednesday will be able to attend both games, starting with the 12:05 p.m. game. Both games will be seven-inning regulation games. Fans who held Wednesday tickets and cannot make the 12:05 p.m. start time may arrive at any time during the afternoon and enjoy the remaining portion of the two games."

The Nationals and Braves were originally scheduled to play a three-game series in Washington beginning on Monday and concluding on Wednesday.

An announcement has yet to be made about when Washington's series against the Mets will be made up.
