Watch out: The Nationals have been known to participate in the 50/50 raffle

The 50/50 raffle has been a mainstay of Nationals home games for years.

For the uninitiated, each home game, fans can purchase raffle tickets at any number of designated kiosks at Nationals Park — and now, online from anywhere inside Washington, D.C. — up through the middle of the seventh inning. Afterwards, the winning ticket is drawn and announced throughout the ballpark.

The winning ticket earns one lucky fan half of the proceeds, while the other half goes toward the Nationals' philanthropic wing, Nationals Philanthropies.

A win-win for everyone involved, including potentially someone from inside the Nationals clubhouse.

"We do a lot of pools. We do golf pools. We do horse races. We do all that kind of stuff," Zimmerman said during his weekly appearance with The Sports Junkies, presented by MainStreet Bank.

"We've actually even done the 50/50 raffle every now and then, if it gets really high," he admitted. "We'll send a clubhouse kid out with 20 bucks and buy some 50/50 raffle tickets."

"Hold on! Wait a second!" Cakes clamored. "You guys send out the ball boy to buy 50//50 raffles from the Nats Philanthropies?!"

"I can't remember the last time we did it," Zimmerman said. "But it has been done before, yes. It has been done. We're donating. We're donating to the Nats4Good as well as the fans, so we're just giving back to the team in all sorts of ways."

"That is true," Cakes said. "That's a very good point."
