The Nationals placed left-handed reliever Seth Romero on the 10-day Injured List with a broken hand on Monday.
Romero broke his non-pitching right hand in a freak accident, using it to break his fall after slipping on a stairway Saturday night, according to manager Dave Martinez. When the lefty arrived on Sunday, his right hand was "completely swollen."
"He didn’t really think much of it," Martinez adds, "but it was broken."
Romero, 24, made three appearances for the Nats, going 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA, issuing three walks with five strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
The Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher Ben Braymer from their alternate training site in Fredericksburg in a corresponding move.
Braymer, Washington's 18th-round pick in 2016, joins the active roster for the first time in his career. A co-Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2018, the 26-year-old is 18-17 with a 3.64 ERA and two saves in 75 outings (338.2 IP) across four minor league seasons.
