The Nationals have made a trade from their position player group, dealing OF Alex Call to the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor-league RHPs Eriq Swan and Sean Paul Liñan.
Swan, 23, was the Dodgers’ fourth-round pick in 2023 and their No. 16 prospect per MLB.com. He has spent this season at High-A Great Lakes, going 4-3 with a 4.43 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 69 innings across 16 games (14 starts).
Liñan, 20, was an international free agent and Los Angeles’ No. 20 prospect per MLB.com. He has mostly split this season between the Dodgers’ A-ball affiliates, posting a 1.21 ERA in 29 1/3 innings (six games/five starts) at Low-A Rancho Cucamonga and a 2.65 ERA in 37 1/3 innings (10 games/seven starts) at Great Lakes.
He also made two spot startsat Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing eight runs over 7 1/3 innings, but he does have 101 strikeouts over 74 1/3 total innings this year.
Call, who turns 31 in September, spent parts of four seasons in Washington after being selected off waivers from Cleveland in August 2022.
This season, he slashed .274/.371/.386 with 3 HR and 26 RBI in 72 games,
The Dodgers would have four years of team control over Call, who will likely be eligible for arbitration as a Super Two this winter, but the Nats made the deal after acquiring OF Christian Franklin from the Cubs in the Mike Soroka trade Wednesday night, giving them three prospects in Triple-A to go with an MLB outfield that includes James Wood, Daylin Like, Jacob Young, and, when healthy, Dylan Crews.
