Reports: Mets sign ex-Nats 1B Joey Meneses, RHP Hobie Harris to minor-league deals

A pair of intra-divisional depth signings for the Mets: according to Jon Heyman, the Amazins have signed former Nationals DH/1B Joey Meneses to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training, and MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reports the same for ex-Nats RHP Hobie Harris.

Meneses, now 32, played in 76 games for the Nats last season, slashing .231/.291/.302 with three home runs and 42 RBI. He played 154 games for the Nats in 2023, though, slashing .275/.321/.401 with 13 homers and 89 RBI, and he hit his first career homer in his MLB debut against the Mets in August 2022.

Meneses spent over a decade in the minors after being an IFA signing of the Braves back in 2010 before making that MLB debut, and right now, he is also slashing .347/.423/.644 in the Mexican Pacific Winter League, tied for first on that circuit with seven homers and leading with a 1.067 OPS.

He has played primarily first base – perhaps a position of need with Pete Alonso a free agent – but has also seen time in both outfield corners over his career.

Harris, 31, was a 31st-round pick of the Yankees in 2015 who was taken by Toronto in the 2019 Rule 5 Draft and spent time in Triple-A with the Blue Jays and Brewers before making his MLB debut in April 2023 as a National.

The righty, known for his splitter, had a 5.12 ERA in 19 1/3 innings for Washington that year, while also spending time at Triple-A Rochester.
He played the entire 2024 season at Triple-A St. Paul in the Twins organization, posting a 6.79 ERA but striking out 62 in 54 1/3 innings.
