Ted Leonsis said last week that he is interested in having the Nationals on Monumental Sports Network, but only if he actually owns the team.
Well, here’s some good news, DC faithful: Ted confirmed to Grant & Danny Monday that he is still very interested in doing just that, even if perhaps the Lerners aren’t interested in selling right now.
That said, though, the Nats’ TV rights will be up for grabs after this season, so it’s a big game of wait and see…for everyone but Ted, who isn’t sure that would be the right commitment without further skin in the game.
“I’m forever interested, but the season started, and that should be a signal that the Lerner family is very committed and the team's really not for sale. The news on the network was a surprise, and the media was reporting a logical place for the Nats to come next season would ne onto our network,” Leonsis said. “But for those of us who are aware of what's going on in the local media space, there's not really an opportunity to pay another team on our network, because we're not gonna get additional dollars, at least not next year. So, yeah, this is a Rubik's Cube that still needs to be solved.”
