Major League Baseball revealed its finalists on the ballot to make the 2021 All-Star Game on Sunday with one notable exception.
Nationals shortstop Trea Turner, who's slashing a cool .309/.360/.478 for an .838 OPS, was not among the finalists at the shortstop position, getting edged out by Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres), Javier Baez (Cubs) and Brandon Crawford (Giants) in the National League.
Despite the snub, Turner has quietly put together an All-Star caliber season with 13 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs and 36 RBI while also leading the NL in stolen bases (16) and ranking sixth in total bases (144).
And how did Turner respond to getting the cold shoulder? By calmly smashing the go-ahead homer to break a 1-1 tie against Miami on Sunday.
Josh Bell followed up with a two-run shot of his own two batters later to give the Nats a 5-1 lead, which would ultimately be the final score.
Turner, who has yet to make an All-Star Game in parts of seven seasons, seems to be getting the Anthony Rendon treatment. Rendon did not receive his first All-Star nod until his final season with the Nats in 2019.
Juan Soto was the only Nationals position player among the NL finalists.
