Josh Rosen is joining yet another new team.

The quarterback barren San Francisco 49ers signed the former first-round draft pick off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad on Tuesday to serve as their Week 16 backup.

Rosen will back up C.J. Beathard, who was tabbed as the starter following a season-ending injury to Nick Mullens and with Jimmy Garoppolo still not cleared to play.

The Niners are now Rosen’s fourth team in three seasons in the NFL. The 23-year-old was drafted with the 10th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 but was traded after just one season to the Miami Dolphins so the Cardinals could select Kyler Murray in the 2019 draft.

Rosen did not fare much better in Miami and was relegated to the backup role behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Rosen was released from Miami with the addition of Tua Tagovailoa and has spent the 2020 season on the Bucs’ practice squad.

While he may not get to take a snap for the Niners, being on an active roster provides him a chance to get back on the field.
