The Giants were so close. Oh so close.

But Daniel Jones' mistake-riddled outing — even with a shining moment of pinpoint precision on a touchdown to Golden Tate late in the fourth quarter — ended in a way that even he couldn't completely control.

First, there's what he could control. He could have thrown the ball seconds earlier before Antoine Winfield Jr. closed in on Dion Lewis. He could have thrown it farther to his right, so that Lewis didn't have to slow up. Simply put, he could have made a much, much better pass.

But he didn't, and what he could control ended there. The rest was left up to the referees, and they decided to help him out and throw a flag for pass interference. And then they decided to take it back. Head coach Joe Judge said after the game that he thought it was a pass interference. Others, as you'll soon find out, did not.

As is the case with most plays in the "controversial call" category, the internet referees throughout the NFL Twitterverse weighed in and were largely split on whether or not the referees did the right thing. Here are some of the most notable figures who shared their thoughts.

Analyst Warren Sharp thought that the eventual no-call was the right play.

However, he also thought the referees gave the Giants a bad break earlier in the game when they called a penalty on Isaac Yiadom, an opinion which garnered many similar takes.
