(WFAN) -- Giants coach Pat Shurmur was noncommital Monday when asked if Eli Manning would remain the team's starting quarterback in Week 3.
Talking to reporters, Shurmur only said that Manning has "been our starter so far" and that it's "fair" to have a conversation about replacing the two-time Super Bowl MVP with rookie Daniel Jones.
When one reporter pointed out to Shurmur that his comments were sure to stir much debate about a possible QB change, the coach he said he understood.
Manning told reporters that Shurmur has not discussed his starting status with him since Sunday's loss to the Bills and that he's preparing for next week's game at Tampa Bay as he normally would.
"I get it When you draft a guy early and you’re not winning games, these (questions) were going to come up," Manning said.
The Giants are off to their sixth 0-2 start in the past seven years. Manning is 56-of-89 (62.9%) for 556 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Jones, the sixth overall pick in April's draft, was inserted late into the Giants' season-opening loss to the Cowboys, completing 3 of 4 passes for 17 yards before losing a fumble.
