TNT landed quite the free agent for its future hockey coverage.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Wayne Gretzky will be the lead analyst on Turner’s premiere NHL studio show when it takes over hockey coverage from NBC next season.
Gretzky, who previously failed to reach a deal with ESPN, has agreed to a contract “in the neighborhood” of $3 million per season, according to Marchand.
Charles Barkley reportedly helped recruit The Great One, whom he is friends with, to TNT, which is aiming to create something similar to its “Inside the NBA” studio show which stars Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson.
Gretzky, 60, also announced earlier on Tuesday that he was stepping down as vice chairman of the Edmonton Oilers.
Gretzky has worked with the Oilers since 2016. This would be his first-ever media gig.
