The 2020 NFL Draft class has been lauded as one of the deepest wide receiver drafts in recent memory. More than five receivers could be off the board by the end of the first round, and that doesn't even scratch the surface.
Jerry Jeudy (Alabama), CeeDee Lamb (Oklahoma), and Henry Ruggs (Alabama) headline the position group and are all expected to be selected in the teens. Outside of the top three, the position is loaded for teams that need weapons and can afford to wait.
The Redskins are one of those teams.
Star receivers are found deep into drafts every year. The Redskins drafted one of the top deep threats in the third round of last year's draft in Terry McLaurin (919 yards, 7 TD). They didn't have to use a first or second-round pick to select him, and they addressed positions of need early-on.
In 2017, the first three receivers off the board were Corey Davis (picked 5th overall by Tennessee), Mike Williams (picked 7th overall by the L.A. Chargers), and John Ross (picked 9th overall by Cincinnati). In the third round, Cooper Kupp fell to the Rams at pick 69, Chris Godwin fell to Tampa Bay at 84, and Kenny Golladay fell to Detroit at 96.
Which three have yielded more results?
In 2019, Davis, Williams, and Ross racked up 2,108 yards and 7 total touchdowns.
In 2019 Kupp, Godwin, and Golladay accounted for 3,684 and 30 total touchdowns.
I'd take the latter.
The Redskins can afford to wait on selecting a deep threat in the 2020 draft. No need to rush.
