Report: Three teams have requested interviews with Commanders assistant QB coach David Blough

Dan Quinn said during his end-of-season press conference that part of the thought process behind building his staff was to be able to promote from within if any defections occurred – but what if those defections are deep down the chart?

That could be the case with assistant QB coach David Blough, who, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garofalo, has received requests from the Jets and Jaguars to interview for their QB coach openings, and also from the Bears for a role as passing game coordinator.

Blough, 29, began his coaching career last season as Tavita Pritchard’s assistant following a five-year NFL career. He played in nine career games for Detroit and Arizona from 2019-22, while also spending time with the Browns (2019 training camp) and Vikings (2022 practice squad).

Blough has familiarity with the new head coaches of two of those teams, as Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was the defensive coordinator in Detroit for the last four seasons, while Bears head coach Ben Johnson was Blough’s offensive coordinator with the Lions in 2023 and was on the offensive staff during Blough’s first stint there from 2019-21.

He has never worked with new Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, although Coen was a quarterback in college at UMass and spent eight years in the collegiate ranks and one with the Rams as a QB coach.
