If Kevin Willard is leaving for Villanova, so be it, but on Friday, Craig Hoffman made a good point on his abbreviated show on the Team 980: who would take a job, and why would they take it, if they don’t know who their boss is going to be?
That may be more sports-specific than anything, but when Scott Dochterman, who covers college sports for The Athletic, joined Grant & Danny, he explained why in this case, Maryland could still be an attractive job even with no AD and administrative turmoil.
But that said, Dochterman gets Hoffman’s point…
“The problem that he did by kind of torching all this is, now that there isn't an athletic director, and if he goes to Villanova, who's gonna look at that program and say, wow, I can really do something with it?” Dochterman said. “Shooting from the hip is fun sometimes, and that's probably something that you could talk with reporters about on the side, but don't ever do it in the press conference at the NCAA Tournament. It comes back to bite you.”
