The Olympics began this week with preliminary matches in handball, rugby sevens, and soccer, and Friday’s Opening Ceremonies were to be the gateway to the games beginning in earnest.
Over the next two-plus weeks, some big-time memories will be made – but whether your 15 or 50, chances are, you’ve got at least one huge Olympic memory you hold fond; from the Miracle on Ice to the Dream Team, Kerri Strug to Michael Phelps, we’ve seen greatness in action.
Counting winter, the Junks all agreed that the Miracle on Ice is definitely No. 1, and Cakes mentioned both Strug and Mary Lou Retton’s perfect 10s in 1984 leading into a lot of track records (because 1984 was the same Olympics where Carl Lewis went ham, too).
