When you don't provide a specific explanation for a relatively extended absence, you open the door for speculation.

Or in this case, conspiracy theories.

As Tom Brady continues to be absent from Training Camp and the preseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, some have wondered if the 45-year-old is re-thinking his decision to come out of retirement and return for a 23rd NFL season.

Others, well, they've had enough time to come up with another explanation:

Brady has been excused since Aug. 11, with head coach Todd Bowles initially saying that the expectation was that the seven-time Super Bowl Champion would return to the team "somewhere around after" their second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

The Buccaneers will play the Titans Saturday evening, but Bowles didn't sound certain when asked this week if Brady will be back immediately after the game.

"We’ll see. We’ll talk about it next week. I’m not concerned about it right now. We’re trying to practice against Tennessee and play a game," Bowles said Thursday, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic.

"I said sometime after Tennessee. There’s no definitive date for me. We’ll keep in touch and find out."

Brady's 10-year/$375 million deal with FOX wasn't announced until after he decided to unretire, and it seems hard to imagine him missing this amount of Training Camp for something relatively trivial. But he's Tom Brady, so if he had committed to this before coming back, the Buccaneers didn't have much of a choice but to agree to the absence so he would play another season.

What's more likely is that he and his wife Gisele Bündchen worked out this agreement that he would have extra time with his family before the season begins, or he wouldn't come back. Brady wanted to come back and the Buccaneers wanted him back, so this may be how they convinced Mrs. Brady to allow it to happen.
