BMitch & Finlay: Can Jayden Daniels be the face of Commanders merchandise?
The Commanders fan base is electrified by Jayden Daniels leading this year's team, and optimism is right to be high after a 3-1 start that feels a lot different than last year's 2-2 mark after four games.
"I think there's a lot of people that had kind of just been waiting; they grew up a fan, but they've been waiting, and I think they're getting on board now," JP Finlay said Tuesday. "If this team mattered to you growing up, you should be really excited about where they're going right now."
"They're waiting to see what was gonna happen, and I think if the enthusiasm of what's happening now and watching these owners and things like that doesn't move you, then something's wrong with you," BMitch replied. "If somebody got a closed mind and stuff, then you can't sway them."
Perhaps, in Jayden Daniels, the Commanders finally have their face of the franchise under this name, and it's a guy who, depending on how you look at Mark Rypien or RG3, is the best signal-caller the team has had in anywhere from 10 to 40 years.
Which is a huge turnaround from just two years ago, 2/2/22, when the QB was…Carson Wentz?
"I'd never rock a Wentz jersey – did you see what he did for us?" said Jeff Walker, who claimed his 106.7 The Fan jersey is more valuable than a Wentz jersey these days. "Somebody would buy this jersey off me for more than what they'll pay for 100 Wentz jerseys."
"I think would pay $2 for a Wentz jersey, that'd be my highest offer," JP said, "but the other side of this is that if Jayden continues to ball out and this offense is good and they continue to win, it's gonna be more and more Commanders jerseys getting sold. For the first time, you've got a player forcing everybody to get Commanders gear, and you'd think Jayden Daniels can kind of be the single hand conduit to getting the more widespread acceptance."
"If he keeps playing the way he's playing, hell yes," BMitch replied. "People fall in love with players that are workers, that end up winning. The name makes you fall in love with it, but it's the players that make people go out and purchase stuff more than the name does."
Landfill went back in the archives and found the audio of BMitch & Finlay reacting to the news that the Commanders had traded for Carson Wentz, and yeah, those guys were prescient (and really, how could you not be) about what was to come.
But, you can listen above to hear them look back with a laugh and look forward with optimism!
