Mark Ingram II won a Heisman, played for the Saints, and co-hosts a college football podcast, so he’s got a lot of vested interest in the football going on around the DMV this weekend.
But, while he joined BMitch & Finlay live on Army-Navy Radio Row Friday to discuss that game and Saturday night’s Heisman presentation, the big thought for us was about Commanders-Saints, and that LSU quarterback we happen to have under center.
On the latter, well, let his adjective speak for itself.
“He’s a beast, man. I’m so happy he’s not playing for LSU anymore, you know what I mean?” Ingram, former Alabama star, joked. “He’s just a special player, man, and I knew it. I was actually at Alabama-LSU two years ago when he had that game winning two-point conversion, and I was like, ‘oh, this dude is different,’ and he obviously went back last year, won the Heisman, and improved even more. He can throw the football, he has the right mindset and mentality, he can run obviously – and as a rookie quarterback, to have a whole team and a whole organization behind you, that just tells you everything you need to know. He’s set up for success, and I think he's going to be a great player. I think they found their quarterback here.”
And, he’s a perfect example of what a ‘perfect fit’ means.
“He came into a really good position, got some good support, got good coaching around him, and the situation you go to, it matters,” Ingram said. “You go to Carolina like Bryce Young and they bench you and then try to bring you back and they’re like, oh, what happened? Nothing happened, you know what I mean? Or even like Caleb in Chicago – the situation, the place you go and the people who are around you, matter so much, and I think he's in a great situation.”
