Odds was the word of the day on BMitch & Finlay, and despite the odds favoring Bill Belichick’s next destination being DC if he leaves New England, the guys aren’t feeling that idea.
But, how would you feel about a return of the prodigal QB son, Kirk Cousins?
“The Vikings’ situation seems broken, and I wouldn’t count them out, but the fact Jefferson is hurt is a problem, and they don’t play any defense, so Kirk may possibly be on the market next year or available at the trade deadline,” JP said.
The favorite to land Cousins, per betonline.ag, is Belichick in New England, which
“Bill is tough on his quarterback, so I don't know if Kirk is made to deal with Bill Belichick,” BMitch said. “Tom Brady was, because he was a workaholic and took chances, and Bill expects you to know it inside and out and be the leader of that team.”
No. 2 in the clubhouse? The Commanders, tied with the Titans at 4 to 1 – and yeah, Brian ain’t feeling that, either.
“I don't see that happening in any capacity,” JP said. “Kirk is a good quarterback, I don’t think he’s a great one, and I don’t think coming back here makes a ton of sense.”
“If he was young still, yes, but we know what Kirk is – he will get a lot of nice stats and he's not gonna make that play to take you over the hump,” BMitch responded. “At this point, we need someone that could possibly take us over the hump or somebody that is young enough to where they can be here for the next five, 10, 15 years and they can just grow into it. I think he's already proven to you who he is.”
Cousins is durable, but he’ll be 36 years old next season, so he’s not a long-term answer. Perhaps, if he’s the veteran bridge to a draft pick in a new regime, maybe, but a lot of the teams also on the top of the list are teams having down years that have established coaches (Tennessee, Pittsburgh, etc.) or squads like DC where what’s there now isn’t working.
And once again, the guys in the fishbowl are split, but this time, it’s Jeff saying no, and Landphill making the argument.
“Yeah, why not?” Andrew said. “I mean, nobody they've had since him has been any good.”
As JP noted, going for Cousins likely does mean losing Howell, and that might not be the right idea overall.
“I don't think Kirk is like Rodgers or Brady, who steps into a team and feel they can lead him,” BMitch said. “Kirk has mastered making money and putting up stats, but his teams don’t go very far in the playoffs.”
