BMitch & Finlay debate Commanders' best strengths, worst weaknesses among position groups

We know Sam Howell is the biggest question mark for the Commanders going into 2023 – but we also know that Jacoby Brissett is a quality backup, and third-stringer Jake Fromm has an NFL start under his belt and has been on two playoff teams already in Buffalo and New York.

So if you assume that trio isn’t the weakness of the team, what IS the Commanders’ biggest weakness…and what is their biggest strength.

BMitch & Finlay debated that topic Monday, and when it comes to strength, the guys know where the Commanders’ bread is buttered.

“Still the D-line…I think the receivers come after, but the d-line,” BMitch said, with JP agreeing that “it isn’t even close.”

JP and Brian agree that it’s D-Line, WR, DBs, although Mr. Finlay could see the receivers ranked behind of the defensive secondary.

“Maybe you can move DBs ahead of wide receivers, because of the depth,” JP said. “McLaurin is a star and I think Jahan (Dotson) can be one, and Curtis (Samuel) has a lot of good skills if the health is there, but after that it falls a bit – but the talent at wideout, unless we see Forbes break out, Terry’s peak is high enough to put them second.”

As for the weaknesses?

“They tried to improve the linebacking corps, but they still have only two guys you trust,” BMitch said, with the guys then agreeing that Khaleke Hudson isn’t quite at that level yet.

“There are guys you see, particularly defensive players, that are really smart and start to look good in their second or third training camps, but in games, it’s not really in sync,” JP said.

“You need to be able to pick that up in games, where you can identify in multiple offenses what they’re doing, and not just the one you practice against,” BMitch agreed.

Offensive line came next, mostly because of having four new starters needing to find chemistry, and then quarterbacks come third because of the Howell situation.
