ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes appeared on the Domonique Foxworth Show this week, and when asked to give her hot take of the NFL season, predicted that the Commanders will make a blockbuster trade with the Raiders that will bring superstar Davante Adams to Washington.
The prediction gained plenty of traction among NFL fans on social media, but neither BMitch nor Finlay are buying it as a prediction that will come true.
“DaVante Adams…clearly unhappy. I don’t expect him to become happier this year with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell as the starters,” Finlay said. “But [the Commanders] just had ample opportunity to trade for Brandon Aiyuk…they didn’t. Aiyuk is significantly younger than Adams…Davante Adams is fantastic. But to make this move at the deadline? I don’t see it.”
Washington was part of several Aiyuk trade rumors, but the star wideout signed an extension with the Niners and was not moved. While Finlay believes that Adams is the superior wide receiver, he doesn’t see the Commanders taking on that contract at this phase of their “recalibration,” as GM Adam Peters calls it, nor is he sure the Commanders will be in a position to be that level of buyers by the trade deadline in year one of Jayden Daniels under center.
“If they are out of it…you have a couple veteran pieces that a contending team would be very interested in,” Finlay said. “I think this team is far more likely to be a seller at the deadline than a buyer.”
BMitch was in agreement, and doesn’t believe there is much of a shot, or any at all, of Adams being a Commander at some point this season.
“I don’t see that happening,” BMitch said.
